Chelseas Ramires Accepts FA Charge, Gets Four-Match Ban

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on April 24, 2014

Chelsea midfielder Ramires is to serve four-game ban after accepting the Football Association (FA) charge of violent conduct.

The Brazilian midfielder was earlier on Wednesday charged for violent conduct following an off-the-ball incident that was not seen by the match official but caught on tape.

The video footage was reviewed by a three-man panel of ex-Premier League referees.

The incident happened in the 42nd minute of Chelseas home loss to Sunderland on Saturday, April 19.

Ramires Receives Four-Match FA Ban for an Off-the-Ball Violent Conduct During Chelseas Premier League Fixture Against Sunderland on 19 April.

The ban includes three games for this offence plus an additional game for his sending off at Villa Park last month, says the FA.

The midfielder is likely to miss the Bluess visit to leaders, Liverpools Anfield on Sunday- a potential league title decider-, Norwichs Carrow Road and Cardiff Citys visit to Stamford Bridge, plus the clubs first match in the forthcoming season.

Ramires is one of three members of Chelseas staff charged for improper conduct by the FA.

Assistant manager Rui Faria was charged with two count misconduct for using abusive and/or insulting words towards the fourth official in the 83rd minute of the fixture. Faria watched the closing seven minutes of the match away from the dugout, after being sent to the stands by referee Mike Dean.

Jose Mourinho was charged in respect of his post-match comments, where he had congratulated the match referee.

The FA said: The comments constitute improper conducts in that they question the integrity of the referee appointed to the above fixture an/or the integrity of Mr. Mike Riley, General Manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) and/or bring the game into disrepute.

Both Faria and Mourinho has until 6pm on Monday, 28 April each to respond to the charges.

Norwich City will be without on loan defender Joseph Yobo when they visit Manchester United in Saturdays late afternoon Premier League kick-off.

The Nigeria international, who also missed last weekends 3-2 loss at title favourites Liverpool, has not fully recovered from a calf injury.

Shedding more light on the Canaries injury concern on Thursday, manager Neil Adams confirmed Yobo could return to training next week ahead of Chelseas visit to Carrow Road.

Joseph Yobo Joined the Canaries on Loan in January from Fenerbahce.

Joseph (Yobo) is still having treatment on his calf but we are hopeful of getting him back in on Monday.

He still has a problem and he wont be ready for this weekend, Adams said.

Midfielder Elliott Bennett is fit and in line for a return after completing another 90 minutes for the Under-21s.

“Elliott will be in the squad. He just needed games and I think he’s proved that. He’s played three and a half games for the Under-21s and he’s ready now, the manager said.

“His knee is fine and all the medical people we spoke to say he’s ready if needs be, so we’re delighted for him.

Norwich are 17th on the league standings, two points above the relegation zone.

World Cup Provisional List Ready, Due for Next Week- NFF

Nigerias provisional squad list for the 2014 Fifa World Cup in Brazil is ready and will be released next week.

Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee, Barrister Chris Green, refutes a newspaper report that the football federation and national team handler, Stephen Keshi, painted a picture of a deadlock, following last Tuesdays meeting, to try manage a bad case.

According to the report, Keshi did not submit any squad list at the technical committee meeting and in connivance with his employers lied about the situation.

The Nigeria Football Federation.

The list of players is ready, Green is quoted as saying on African Football. As we said, coach Keshi is making more consultations and the list will be released next week.

We have not defaulted in any way, because the deadline for the submission of provisional list of 30 players to Fifa remains May 13.

There was no bad case at all. We met with coach Keshi and we discussed the programme of preparation for the World Cup, and everyone was happy.

It was wrong for anyone to say the NFF and Keshi lied to Nigerians.

We are responsible citizens and diligent in what we do, and will never take the nation and its people for a ride.

I Want to Bring Back Some Positivity- Man United Interim Boss Giggs

Posted by: Omaku Cephas on April 25, 2014

Manchester United’s interim coach, Ryan Giggs, says he is “proud” of getting the opportunity to manage the club he has known all his life.

The Welshman faced the media in his first press conference as interim boss, following the departure of David Moyes earlier this week.

“I would like to go on record to thank David Moyes for giving me my first chance in coaching,” Giggs, 40, said in his news conference. “It is something I will always remember.

“Secondly, I would like to say how proud I am of managing the club I have supported all my life. It is a proud moment for me and one I will enjoy.

“Just like as a player. I can’t wait for Saturday to come. I know the stadium will be bouncing.”

United begin life post-Moyes’ era with Norwich City’s visit to Old Trafford. Giggs, who was a player coach under the ousted Scot, 50, will be flanked by three of his teammates from the ‘Class of 92’, as Nicky b*tt and Paul Scholes join him and Phil Neville in the dugout for the remaining four matches of the disappointing season.

A season of heartaches and frustration it has been for the players, fans and management of the Premier League champions, who currently sits in seventh position in the league table and are at risk of missing out on any of the European competitions next season. The troughs outnumbers the peaks and Moyes’ ten-month stint obviously failed to do much but create apathy between fans and the team- even a rumoured dressing room rift.

United’s revival indeed will now distance itself from the former Everton boss. Many have tried gazing into the stars to see what the future holds. It starts with Saturday’s late afternoon game against relegation threatened Norwich, according to the new man at the helm.

“I am just concentrating on the four games remaining, that is my main focus,” continued Giggs. “After that I have not really thought about it. I have come into the job and my immediate aim is to win Saturday. Best way to do that is to make training as enjoyable as they can.

“It has been a frustrating season for everyone. You win together, you lose together. These four matches I want to bring some positivity back, bring smiles to the faces. I want to see goals and tackles, I want to get the crowd up and want to see the passion.”

The enormity of the task at United is something Giggs has grown with and has never known anything different, but the fact he has not earned his coaching badges comes in-between. He is deeply respected among the playing staff, which has always seen him as a leader. In return, Giggs, who has 13 league winner’s medal in his cabinet and has made over 600 appearances for the 20-time champions, have strengthened his position with the players by sticking up for them- even through the difficulties.

Asked about how the ‘Red Devils’ will play under him, he added: “I want the players to express themselves and enjoy themselves. It will be by my philosophy and Manchester United’s philosophy because I have been here all of my career.

“I want the players to play with passion, speed, tempo, be brave and play with imagination. Also, work hard and most of all enjoy it. If I know I am enjoying a game I can express myself more. That is what I will be doing with the team tomorrow.”

Giggs has made 11 league appearances as a player-coach and does not see his new role stopping him from improving on that.

“I have not done much this week but yes I will be involved as a player,” he said when asked whether he will still be available as a player for the remaining games.
